Captivating Caprivi, Lush Jewel of Namibia

Set out through the scenic dry northern region of Namibia into a verdant paradise of powerful African rivers and sparkling waterways. The Caprivi is a unique region inspired by the fresh waters of the Kavango, Zambezi, Linyanti, Kwando and Chobe Rivers. It provides a stunning and sudden contrast from the semi-arid and arid landscapes of the rest of the country, and supports an exciting abundance of plant, animal and bird life.

- Before the Kavango River spills into Botswana’s delta it ranges through the abundant wilderness of Namibia’s Mahonga Game Reserve
- The Kwando River creates magical floodplains, floating papyrus swamps and luxurious riverine forest in Namibia’s Mudumu National Park
- Sunset cruise on the Chobe River where the largest concentrations of African elephant can be found



Departing Windhoek
You leave Windhoek at 08h00 and travel to Okahandja for a visit to the craft market. The town is an important centre for talented woodcarvers from the north.

Day One
You travel on and stop at Otjiwarongo for lunch (for guest’s own account). Here we will possibly meet other guests already travelling on the Northern Odyssey and Etosha Safari tours. You arrive at your lodge in Otavi and have the remainder of the day at your leisure.

Day Two
After breakfast, we travel north to Rundu, and visit the Hoba Meteorite en route. There’s a stop for an optional lunch (for guest’s own account). You will notice that the deeply rural landscapes are becoming lusher and lusher. You arrive at your lodge near the Mahango Game Park and have time to freshen up before embarking on a spectacular game-viewing sunset cruise on the Kavango River. Your return to the lodge for dinner and a relaxing evening the African bush.

Day Three
You’re on safari so you wake for an early breakfast before the game drive into the Mahango Game Park when the wildlife is still wonderfully active along the scenic flood plains. You return to check out of the lodge and resume the journey to Pops Falls, a series of rapids formed by Kavango River. The route takes you through the Caprivi Game Reserve where you stop to enjoy a picnic lunch. You arrive at Kongola and transfer to your lodge near Mudumu National Park. Enjoy a stunning game-viewing cruise on the Kwando River before returning for dinner at the lodge.

Day Four
This morning you have the opportunity to join a cultural tour at the Living Museum of the Mafwe people which will give you authentic and fascinating insights into the life and the traditional culture of the Mafwe. You return to the lodge for lunch, and a siesta or relaxing around the pool. Enjoy an afternoon cruise on the Kwando River with its opportunities to some of the plentiful bird species and game-watching. Enjoy dinner and a relaxing evening at the lodge.

Day Five
After breakfast you check out and travel west to the town of Katima Mulilo. There’s a short stop for lunch (for guest’s own account) on the banks of the Zambezi River. You continue the journey to the border of Namibia and Botswana at Ngoma Gate where passports are necessary; and guests need to ensure they meet the visa requirements. You travel to Kasane via Chobe National Park, and arrive at your lodge on the banks of the Chobe River. Enjoy a late afternoon game-viewing cruise on this magnificent river where large herds of elephant and buffalo, hippo, crocodile and an abundance of birds can be seen.

Day Six
Your tour ends after breakfast; and you can be transferred to Kasane, or Victoria Falls or Livingstone. There is also the fantastic opportunity to enjoy more time in this superb region with the Namibia Caprivi Add-on Botswana & Victoria Falls Safari


Departing Windhoek, Day One - Khorab Lodge
, Otavi Set in a beautiful sub-tropical garden, Khorab Lodge provides a refreshing oasis en route to the Caprivi. Accommodation is in spacious en suite rooms in thatched bungalows with private terraces leading into the garden. Relax around the crystal clear swimming pool, or enjoy sundowners in the bar or lounge. There is al la carte dining in the restaurant or barbeques around the fire under the thatched poolside lapa.
Day Two - Mahangu Safari Lodge,
Eastern Caprivi Situated on the western bank of the Kavango River, next to the Mahonga National Park, this comfortably styled thatched lodge is ideally situated to explore the attractions of the Eastern Caprivi. Accommodation is in riverside bungalows which are en suite and offer modern conveniences. The main lodge has a lapa, lounge, dining room, bar, a sparkling swimming pool and two sunset decks with stunning views of the Kavango River.
Day Three, Day Four - Namushasha Country Lodge,
Eastern Caprivi This safari lodge, on the banks of the Kwando River and overlooking a hippo pool, is surrounded by game reserves. Accommodation is in en suite chalets with private balconies and mosquito nets. Enjoy game watching from the sundowner deck, story telling with fellow travellers in the bar and delicious buffet meals in the restaurant. Game-viewing and birding boat trips along the river provide fantastic opportunities to experience the abundance of animal life in the Caprivi.
Day Five - Zovu Elephant Lodge ,
Guests at Zovu Elephant Lodge, which is situated on the banks of the Chobe River in the Caprivi, enjoy exciting sightings of elephant at the water’s edge virtually every day. Accommodation is in comfortable en suite rooms with every modern convenience the discerning traveller may require. Enjoy siestas at the poolside, spectacular sundowners on the lawn or from the bar, as well as excellent food and wine at the restaurant.
